Desire and Disdain

My work is concerned with being overwhelmed by abundance and gluttonous consumption while simultaneously reveling and revolting in the ride. The source material of found photographs of excessively decorated rooms used to create my pieces convey an obsession with interiors and design. I digitally manipulate and layer images in order to explore the concurrent fantasy and aversion that are conjured up in the viewing.

The pieces are deceptively decorative, utilizing opulent color and a shifting perspective to recreate the physical experience of disorientation that takes place within the mind's eye. The aim is to present a snapshot of stream-of-consciousness realized as dizzying color and shape.

My current work consists of limited-edition, digital archival chromogenic prints. I've recently undertaken a series of videos that continue to explore issues of consumption, desire and aversion in a similar aesthetic of overwhelmed perception using sampled imagery. The first video in the series can be found at: http://vimeo.com/6276856

Influences include '70s feminist artists, Surrealist artists, the Pattern and Decoration movement, Carl Jung and the perfection of Henri Matisse.
